From runners lunge with the back leg on the floor, the front leg is straightened. The torso is supported in an upright position by the hands pressing firmly into the earth on either side of the body. The back hip is drawn forward and the front hip is drawn back to align and square the hips. Rib cage is centered over pelvis by lifting the sternum slightly back. Torso lengthens through the crown of the head. Back leg is in one straight line from the hip through the knee to insure that the knee is not torqued outward.

- provides a powerful stretch and opening for the buttocks
- can be helpful for sciatica
- massages the digestive and reproductive organs and is helpful for elimination
